Heating

We finally settled on where to locate the kitchen.The biggest window in the house overlooking the back garden, with the window on the adjoining hall wall and glass surrounds on the front door, it gets light on two sides and seems the perfect spot. We brought the old range from Dublin which had been lying in wait for as long as this little house (waiting for life).


Since the range will be our main source of heat and cooking, it needs to be fuel efficient and in good working order. After three weeks of smoking for an hour until it heated, and the oven doesn't heat, it is time for a rethink. It is sad to part with it but our heads must rule our hearts on this one. Fairwell oold friend.

We have replaced the old with the same model dark green is the updated colour, and it suits our kitchen just fine. Since we installed the new range we need to release all this hot water. We sourced two large cast iron radiators on the buy&sell. One is free standing, the other will need to be bracketed to the wall.

We connected the radiators when we came back from our last trip to France. Bringing them indoors was a task in itself as they are a dead weight. No opportunity for the camera as it was all hands on deck. We used the tractor and buckrake to get them to the house, while I was behind the wheel, Jimmy and Dave need all their strenght and tactics to manouver them onto rollers inside. Once installed and painted they look like they have been there forever, and they work perfectly.

One of the radiators was too big, so we bought two others in a local salvage yard. The big one may suit later to use with solar enery to heat summer time water.
